North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores
North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is one of three public aquariums operated by the Aquariums Division of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources since 1976. After the completion of major expansion works in March 2002, the size of its aquarium systems increased from 77,000 to 455,000 US gallons. The expansion included the creation of the Cape Fear Shoals tank, an exhibit recreating the hard bottomed coral reefs off the coast of North Carolina.
