Celebrating Sandra Billings: Building Wonder with Women
—Mira Bryant; Wednesday, November 19, 2025
At Billings Productions, our journey has always been a family story—rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and the belief that imagination can change lives. On Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, we honor our founder Sandra Billings, whose quiet grit helped transform a small Texas workshop into a creative studio that serves zoos, aquariums, museums, and parks around the world.
Why this day exists
In 2013, social entrepreneur Wendy Diamond founded the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization (WEDO) after volunteering with the Adelante Foundation in Honduras. The idea was simple and world-sized: empower women, reduce poverty, and build a network where women leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs can lift one another. In 2014, WEDO’s first celebration took place at the United Nations, and cities across the U.S. proclaimed November 19 as Women’s Entrepreneurship Day. Since then, WEDO has championed microloans for women and launched the #ChooseWOMEN initiative—inviting all of us to support women in business, arts, finance, and public life.
How Sandra’s story fits

Sandra’s path mirrors the spirit of WEDO: see a need, gather a team, and build the solution. In 2003, she co-founded Billings Productions with a vision to blend science and art—designing and fabricating creatures that educate and delight. That vision required entrepreneurial courage: learning new processes, hiring and training craftspeople, navigating deadlines, and nurturing customer relationships that keep the work meaningful.
What makes Sandra’s leadership special is the way she invests in people—especially women at every stage of their careers. Whether it’s the first time someone picks up an airbrush or the day a fabricator leads her own build, Sandra’s message is consistent: your ideas matter, and you belong here.
What movements make possible

When women are equipped and welcomed, everyone wins:
Communities grow. Mentorship ripple into families, neighborhoods, and schools.
Organizations thrive. Diverse teams solve problems faster and deliver smarter designs.
Children see themselves in the future. When girls meet welders, engineers, painters, and project managers who look like them, dreams feel reachable.
How we celebrate at Billings

We listen first and build relationships that last.
We champion women across our shop—on the floor and at the table.
We partner with educators and nonprofits so young makers can see, touch, and try.
We keep telling stories that connect STEM and ART, because creativity needs both!
BILLINGS-- inspiring women to build the impossible.
